Chelsea Steiner has spent the past twenty years working in different aspects of the media and entertainment industry. She began her career as an agent trainee at International Creative Management (ICM), before launching a screenwriting career and joining the Writers Guild of America (WGA West). In 2015, she was an honoree in the WGA Feature Access Project. In her career as a screenwriter, Chelsea developed and sold projects at Disney, Walden Media, Imagine, Lifetime, NBC Universal, and Nickelodeon. She was elected Vice Chair of the LGBTQ+ Committee of the WGA West, becoming the first woman to hold a leadership position on the committee, where she advocated for inclusion, equity, and opportunities for queer and trans screenwriters and exponentially expanded committee membership to an all-time high.
Chelsea then pursued her lifelong passion for sex education, consent, and sex positivity at the Pleasure Chest, where she taught sex education classes both in-store, at conventions, and on college campuses. As a copywriter and social media manager, she spearheaded national campaigns for the brand, which focused on consent, education, and LBGTQ+ and reproductive rights.
In 2018, Chelsea wrote, directed, produced, and acted in Thank You Come Again, a comedy web series based on her time at the Pleasure Chest. The series went on to win Best Web Series at ClexaCon and was a featured selection at the Honolulu Rainbow Film Festival, CineKink, the LGBT Toronto Film Festival, and the Reeling Film Festival in Chicago.
Chelsea’s writing has appeared on Autostraddle, AfterEllen, and Jezebel. She was the Weekend Editor at The Mary Sue, where she covered entertainment news, politics, and the intersection of feminism and nerd culture. She has appeared as a speaker and a moderator at San Diego Comic Con, L.A.Comic Con, and ClexaCon, where she discusses the intersections of queer and geek culture.
Chelsea is a former roller derby girl and a black belt in judo, so she is not to be trifled with. She hails from New Orleans, LA, which explains her undying love of cheesy grits and Britney Spears. She attended Stanford University, where she majored in Communication with a minor in Creative Writing. She currently lives in Los Angeles with her husband, her two sons, and a terribly behaved rescue dog.
